The Western International Junior Hockey League (WIJHL) is proud to announce an affiliation agreement for the 2026/2027 Season with Lloydminster’s Thunder HC.
Forming a mutual agreement such as this, is a great opportunity for both the WIJHL and Thunder HC. It provides the WIJHL and its member teams with the ability to work closely with Thunder HC Hockey Staff and players to develop players and afford opportunities to be called up to participate and be exposed to the Junior Hockey environment. Those players will gain valuable junior experience, additional ice time, and exposure in a highly competitive environment.
This partnership is among multiple others, which span Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, adding to the availability of depth and creating developmental opportunities within the independent hockey eco-system. The rising level of interest from youth programs desiring to work with the WIJHL, speak to the clear pathway and like-minded philosophies focused on youth development.
“Thunder HC is another program that we are excited about working with this coming season. Their hockey operations staff are committed to advancing players through the independent hockey pipeline, and having the opportunity to connect with our junior level coaching staffs will be mutually beneficial for both the Thunder HC and the WIJHL.” – Brandon Buliziuk, Chairman of the Western International Junior Hockey League.
“At Thunder HC our program is a developmental based model. Whether they played Elite to House previously, if they have the drive and will to get better, we will give them the tools to build their skills for Junior level of play. We focus on development, structure, and professionalism. I’m excited for this partnership with the WIJHL. We want our players to have the opportunity to play high calibre Junior hockey. The partnership the WIJHL have will create a great development model to push players to greater heights.” – Trevor Bickerstaff, General Manager, Thunder HC.
